Heatbit Review (2026): Real Earnings, Noise, and Who It's For

What a Heatbit earns, how loud it really is, and the one comparison that decides whether it makes sense. Models, prices and the honest economics.

A Heatbit is a space heater with a Bitcoin miner inside it. Run the mining numbers on their own and they do not cover the electricity the device consumes at ordinary residential rates, which is the finding that usually ends the discussion.

That test is the wrong one. You are not choosing between a Heatbit and a mining rig. You are choosing between a Heatbit and whatever heater you were going to buy instead, and the answer flips depending on which heater that is.

We have not run one for six months, and where a number comes from the company rather than independent measurement, it says so.

Five things to know before you buy one:

  • A miner is a heater already. Essentially all the electricity an ASIC draws leaves as heat. Heatbit is not splitting power between two jobs, and understanding that removes most of the confusion around whether the concept works.
  • The comparison decides everything. Against a premium appliance heater it wins. Against a cheap resistive heater plus buying Bitcoin directly, it loses. There is no universal answer.
  • The marketing noise figure is not the whole lineup. The 40 dB number belongs to the quieter models. The Maxi runs at about 56 dB at full power, which is a normal-conversation volume, not a whisper.
  • Earnings are modest and shrinking. Heatbit's own estimates run about $300 a season for the Maxi and $420 for the Maxi Pro. Network difficulty rises regardless of what your device does.
  • Pool choice finally shipped. For years these were sealed appliances pointed at Heatbit's pool. The new Bitair lets you point hash rate wherever you want, including solo.

Heatbit does not publish efficiency figures for the Maxi line, which is a gap worth noting. The Bitair's 16.7 J/TH is a substantial improvement on the roughly 40 J/TH the older hardware was built around, and 40 J/TH is 2020-era ASIC territory.

The test that actually decides it

Tyler Stevens of Exergy builds Bitcoin heating systems for buildings, and the framing he uses on TFTC is the one to apply here. Heat is a sunk cost. You are going to pay it whether or not a miner is involved, and you are not going to stop paying it. So the only question worth asking is what the money buys you compared with the alternative you would otherwise have chosen.

Run that against a premium appliance heater and Heatbit wins cleanly. Similar outlay, same electricity, same warmth, plus sats. Bitcoin's price and network difficulty barely enter into it, because the spend was happening anyway.

Run it against a $50 resistive heater and Heatbit loses. Buy the cheap heater, put the eleven hundred dollar difference into Bitcoin, and you are ahead. What you give up is a well-made appliance, which is a real thing to want and a fair thing to charge for, but it is a design purchase rather than a mining one.

Stevens also draws the line that matters for placing this product. A space heater is a gadget you plug in yourself, while a furnace or a boiler is a system somebody installs, and nobody picks their own boiler.

Heatbit lives firmly on the gadget side of that line, which caps both its heat output and its economics. If you need to warm an entire building, this is the wrong shelf.

What it actually earns

Independent testing put a Maxi Pro at roughly $2 of Bitcoin per day running continuously as of March 2026. Heatbit's own seasonal estimates are about $300 for the Maxi and $420 for the Maxi Pro.

Treat all of these as perishable. Mining rewards depend on network difficulty and the Bitcoin price, and difficulty has only gone one direction. A device you buy this winter will earn less next winter at the same price, and less again the winter after. This is not a defect specific to Heatbit, it is what happens to every miner, but it matters more here because the hardware is sealed.

The criticism Wired levelled is that mining returns fall well short of offsetting the electricity the device consumes at typical residential rates. That is correct, and it is also the wrong test. The electricity was going to be spent heating the room. The question is not whether mining pays your power bill, it is whether the sats plus the heat beat the heat alone from a comparable appliance.

Where the economics get genuinely strong is the case Tyler Stevens of Exergy makes: the arbitrage is against stored fuel. Propane and heating oil run three to six times the cost per unit of energy that piped natural gas does. If you are burning propane in a cold climate, the savings from switching heat load to hash rate are large. If you are on cheap natural gas, they are not, and no amount of clever framing changes that.

Noise, and a marketing figure worth checking

Noise is the reason consumer mining appliances exist at all. An industrial miner runs around 80 dB, which is unusable in a room you sleep in, and the 40 dB figure Heatbit has used for years is roughly a whisper.

That figure does not describe the whole range. Heatbit's own page lists the Maxi at about 56 dB at full power. Decibels are logarithmic, so 56 is meaningfully louder than 40, closer to normal conversation than to whispering. The Bitair is specified at 25 to 44 dB with a sleep mode.

If you are putting one in a bedroom, buy on the specific model's number rather than the brand's reputation for quiet.

The repairability problem

The strongest structural criticism comes from D-Central, which points out that Heatbit products are sealed consumer electronics with no user-replaceable parts. When the mining hardware ages past usefulness, you are left with an expensive heater that no longer mines.

Worth knowing that D-Central sells competing repairable mining hardware, so this is not a disinterested assessment. It is also true, and it is the trade-off you accept when you buy an appliance rather than a rig. Modular hashboards are starting to appear elsewhere in the market specifically so heating systems can be upgraded rather than replaced. Heatbit has not gone that route.

What improved, and what still has not

Two things have genuinely got better. Pool selection, the most substantive complaint about the earlier hardware, now ships on the Bitair with a solo option included. Earlier models pointed at Heatbit's pool with no user choice, which meant buying one added hash rate to a pool you did not pick. Choosing your own is how an individual miner exercises any say over Bitcoin's direction, and a sealed appliance that removed the choice was a fair thing to object to.

Efficiency has also moved. Going from around 40 J/TH to 16.7 J/TH on the Bitair is a generational jump.

What has not improved is remote temperature control, which the app still lacks. Customer reports mention connectivity problems and slow support responses. Trustpilot sentiment is broadly positive with most complaints concerning delivery timelines rather than the product itself, which is a familiar pattern for hardware companies shipping in batches.

Alternatives worth comparing

If the appeal is hash rate in the house rather than heat specifically, a Bitaxe costs a fraction of a Heatbit and exists precisely for that. It will not heat a room.

If you need to heat an actual building rather than a room, the appliance category is the wrong shelf entirely. Single-phase hydro miners driving radiant floor systems are the emerging answer there, and that route runs through a plumber rather than a checkout page.

If what you want is Bitcoin exposure, buy Bitcoin. That is not a snide remark, it is the honest alternative for anyone who was only ever going to spend $50 on a heater.

The verdict

Heatbit built a good appliance. The engineering is real: a CES Innovation Award, UL certification, 5nm silicon, tip-over and overheat protection, and a purpose-built quiet enclosure in a category where the default hardware is an 80 dB industrial box.

The mistake is judging it as a miner. As a miner it is mediocre and getting worse, as every miner does. As a premium heater that returns a few hundred dollars a season you would otherwise never see, it is a defensible purchase for a specific person in a specific climate who was already opening their wallet for a nice heater.

Marty made the case for this product category on TFTC back in January 2023, talking to Rick V of CryptoCloaks about people cutting holes in their furnaces to duct miner exhaust inside: "if you could get like a plug-and-play, like in the commercial space or even like the home space, like a furnace or something like that, I would love that. I think we should be pushing for it." Heatbit is the polished version of that idea, three years on. It is worth having in the market. Whether it is worth $1,449 to you comes down to what you were going to buy instead.
